Pottstown’s Memorial Day Parade, Monday May 29th - 10AM

POTTSTOWN — The borough is putting the finishing touches on plans for its upcoming Memorial Day Parade, which will take place on Monday, May 29.

The parade's staging will commence at 9 a.m. at the Goodwill Fire Company located at 714 E. High St. In the event of rain leading to a cancellation of the parade, ceremonies will instead be conducted inside the firehouse.

The parade will feature participants from various military branches including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and Space Force.

The parade procession will start at 10 a.m. and follow a route along High Street, ending at the intersection with Manatawny Street.

Following the parade, Memorial Day services are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. These services will take place on Veterans’ Island in Memorial Park.

The day's events are being supported by the Joint Veteran’s Council and the Veterans’ Island Project.

Reports: Parents of Bryan Kohberger Summoned to Testify in Pa. Grand Jury Investigation into Deceased Missing Woman

Bryan Kohberger's parents, of Monroe County, have been summoned by an investigative grand jury for testimony in connection with the case of Dana Smithers, who was found deceased last month.

Smithers had been missing since May 2022. Bryan Kohberger, a 28-year-old Ph.D. student, is a murder suspect accused of killing four University of Idaho students last November.

Despite this, reports suggest he has a solid alibi and may not be involved in Smithers' disappearance. Kohberger refused to enter a plea during his court appearance, leading the judge to enter not guilty pleas on his behalf.

The motive for the Idaho murders is yet undisclosed.

Doug Mastriano Declines to Enter Pennsylvania U.S. Senate Contest, Creating Vacancy in GOP Candidacy

Pennsylvania State Representative Doug Mastriano, a hard-right conservative, announced that he would not challenge Democratic Senator Bob Casey, leaving the GOP field open for the 2024 Senate race. Mastriano, who was previously endorsed by former President Donald Trump, made his announcement during a livestream.

Party leaders favor former hedge fund CEO David McCormick for the candidacy, assuming he chooses to run. However, his decision is complicated by Trump's potential presidential run, which could create additional challenges for McCormick.

Mastriano's potential candidacy had stirred concern within GOP ranks, with many believing his political skills and extreme views on certain issues would assure a victory for Casey.

McCormick, who narrowly lost the 2022 GOP Senate nomination to Dr. Mehmet Oz, has backing from party leaders, including a super PAC linked to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Despite his substantial personal wealth and extensive network, McCormick was unable to defeat Oz, Trump's endorsed candidate, in the previous Senate race. If he decides to run, McCormick may have to share the ticket with Trump, who has previously criticized him and continues to falsely claim that the 2020 presidential election was rigged.
