Event in the community involved graffiti removal, trash collection, and flower planting
The community of Birdsboro engaged in a spring cleanup event called Beautify Birdsboro on May 13. The event, which has been held annually for about 10 years, saw about 45 participants this year, including local Scouts, who contributed to activities such as painting over graffiti, picking up trash, weeding, mulching, and planting flowers. Despite a lower turnout than usual, the organizers plan to continue the event, potentially shifting it to Earth Day weekend for better participation.
Christen Thompson, a member of the Birdsboro Parks and Recreation Board, underscored the importance of community members contributing to the improvement of their town. A significant portion of volunteers were Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, who were lauded for their enthusiastic involvement.
Additionally, the recent vandalism at Birdsboro's parks was a particular concern, with Rustic Park significantly affected. Caitlyn Dillon, a member of Girl Scout Troop 1797, and Jacob Derer, a member of BSA Troop 595, notably painted over the graffiti at Rustic Park.
To combat vandalism and graffiti, Birdsboro has initiated an art campaign, calling for young artists to create anti-vandalism and graffiti posters. The winning artwork will be displayed around Birdsboro and the artist will be rewarded with $100. Submissions are open until July 15.
The event also featured contributions from St. Mark's Lutheran Church, which provided lunch for the volunteers.
