Frito-Lay issues recall of Tostitos Avocado Salsa Jar Dip

Frito-Lay has voluntarily initiated a recall of its Tostitos Avocado Salsa Jar Dip due to an undeclared milk allergen, as reported by the US Food and Drug Administration.

Individuals with a milk allergy or serious sensitivity risk experiencing a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this dip, warns the FDA release.

Although the salsa dip jar's front label is accurate, the side displaying the nutritional information fails to mention the allergen.

The recall concerns the 15-ounce Tostitos Avocado Salsa Jar Dip, sold in stores and online nationwide, and which may have been available for purchase as of April 5, 2023, as per the FDA.

Frito-Lay's recall does not affect any other Tostitos products.

The release advises, "Consumers with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk should avoid consuming the product and dispose of it immediately."

Previously, Frito-Lay instigated a dairy-related voluntary recall of certain packages of its Lay's Classic Potato Chips, the FDA disclosed. This recall followed a consumer complaint that triggered an investigation and was found to involve packaging that could have contained undeclared milk ingredients from sour cream and onion chips, according to a press release.

PHILLIES

Mets walk 3 batters, hit 2 and make 1 error in 8th-inning meltdown and lose 7-6 to Phillies

Mets' relief pitcher Jeff Brigham inadvertently pushed the Philadelphia Phillies towards a 7-6 victory over New York on Sunday when he hit Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner, forcing in the tiebreaker and winning runs in an eighth-inning bases-loaded situation. This happened after Mets' third baseman Brett Baty committed a crucial throwing error.

The Phillies, despite being down 6-3 in the eighth, managed a four-run comeback against the Mets' bullpen and successfully won two out of three games against their division rivals.

Josh Walker was replaced by Brigham (0-2) after allowing the first three batters to reach base. Brigham managed to coax a double-play ball from Alec Bohm which went to Baty. However, Baty struggled to release the ball from his glove, and his off-target throw to second base caused Jeff McNeil to leave the bag, resulting in a 6-4 score.

Brandon Marsh then drew a bases-loaded walk, narrowing the score to 6-5. Brigham hit Schwarber on his left knee, tying the score at 6. Subsequently, he grazed Turner with two consecutive pitches before finally striking the star shortstop, resulting in the unexpected winning run.

To summarize, in the four-run inning, the Phillies managed to draw three walks, were hit twice, made an error, and scored only one hit.

This represented an astonishing collapse, even by the Mets' often-ludicrous standards.

Mets manager Buck Showalter was ejected in the ninth inning, much to the delight of another full house at Citizens Bank Park.

Despite hitting his 24th home run and acquiring three RBI, Pete Alonso couldn't secure the Mets' first series win since their three-game sweep of the Phillies on June 1. Alonso, just one short of Matt Olson from Atlanta in the NL home run lead, was the main offensive force against Phillies starter Zack Wheeler. His two-out, two-RBI hit in the third inning put the Mets ahead at 2-1. His line-drive homer off Jose Alvarado in the seventh inning extended the Mets' lead to 6-3.

Nonetheless, this wasn't sufficient.

Jeff Hoffman (1-1) pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the win, and Craig Kimbrel's two strikeouts in the ninth secured his 11th save.

Reading Fightin Phils

The Fightin Phils concluded an impressive series by securing a 7-3 victory over Portland on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field.

A pivotal two-run single from Matt Kroon in the fifth inning gave Reading a lasting lead, while an on-fire Nick Podkul spurred a three-run surge in the sixth inning with an RBI triple. Tyler Phillips delivered a standout performance by striking out six and allowing just one run over five innings, earning him the win.

Winning four out of the six games in Portland, the Fightin Phils are set to return home and start a six-game series against Richmond this Wednesday.

Reading Royals

The Reading Royals, esteemed ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, have confirmed the re-signing of forward Brendan Hoffmann for the 2023-24 season.

The 21-year-old, originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, will be embarking on his second professional season with the Royals after successfully completing his debut season with the team. Hoffmann, who will celebrate his 22nd birthday on October 9, achieved an impressive 32 points (13 goals, 19 assists) and served 56 penalty minutes over the course of 64 regular-season games in the 2022-23 season. He also participated in 11 Kelly Cup Playoff games, during which he scored three goals and served four penalty minutes.

Hoffmann, a 6'3", 223-pound forward, made his professional debut with the Royals on October 21, 2022, facing off against the Newfoundland Growlers. He notched a point in his first two games and achieved five multi-point games, as well as four fighting majors during his rookie season. Prior to joining Reading, Hoffmann spent four seasons with the Erie Otters in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

Commenting on Hoffmann's return, Head Coach James Henry stated, "We're thrilled to welcome Brendan back for the 23/24 season. He's a young, promising player who consistently improves. We anticipate Brendan making significant strides this season and contributing significantly to our team's success."

The 2023-24 roster currently includes one forward: Brendan Hoffmann.

Season tickets, flex memberships, and group tickets for the Reading Royals 2023-24 season are now available. You can purchase them at the Royals’ box office at Santander Arena or by calling 610-898-7825.

The Reading Royals, a proud affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, are gearing up for their 22nd season in the ECHL. The team boasts a rich history, having won their first Kelly Cup championship in 2013 and securing playoff spots in 12 of the past 13 seasons. They're five-time division champions and were the 2021-22 Eastern Conference champion. The team is owned by the Berks County Convention Center Authority (BCCCA), established in 1996, which also manages operations at Santander Arena.
