Countywide School Supply Drive Aims to Support Norristown Area Students
Montgomery County’s Health and Human Services Department is running a back-to-school donation drive from July 25 to August 23 to collect essential school supplies for families in need. This year, the drive focuses on supporting students in the Norristown Area School District (NASD).
Donations of backpacks, binders, pencils, and more can be dropped off at various county locations, including One Montgomery Plaza, the Human Services Center, and satellite offices in Lansdale, Pottstown, and Willow Grove. Last year, the drive provided supplies to over 700 students, and the county aims to match or exceed that number this year.

West Pottsgrove’s Park Plan Conflicts with Airport Expansion
West Pottsgrove officials are seeking to buy land from Pottstown Borough to expand a new memorial park on the former Colonial Pool site. However, the land is earmarked for Pottstown Municipal Airport's expansion, which includes 22 new hangars.
Pottstown officials argue that the airport project is crucial for generating revenue, with infrastructure already in place, making changes difficult. Despite the importance of the park to the community, the two plans are currently at a standstill.
French Creek State Park Program Connects Kids with the Outdoors
At French Creek State Park, a group of kids enjoyed a half-hour kayak paddle around Hopewell Lake, part of a nature program aimed at connecting with the outdoors. Organized by Centro Cultural Latinos Unidos, a Pottstown-based nonprofit, this program has been introducing children to nature for 12 years.
After their kayak adventure, the children, including 19 participants from Bridgeport, were guided by park naturalist Jared Brandt and Schuylkill River Greenways' education director, Ayashe Ramey, and explored the lake's ecosystem.
The program is designed to offer kids new experiences in a calm, natural setting, fostering a connection to the environment they might not otherwise have. The day ended with the children watching a dragonfly they had just held return to the lake, a memorable moment for all involved.
Union Advance in Leagues Cup with Baribo’s Two Goals

The Philadelphia Union secured a 2-0 victory over CF Montreal in the Leagues Cup Round of 32 on Friday, with Tai Baribo scoring both goals. Despite both teams being in critical positions in the MLS Eastern Conference standings, the match took place in front of a sparse crowd at Subaru Park.
Baribo’s first goal came just before halftime when he capitalized on a rebound off Sam Adeniran’s shot. He sealed the win in stoppage time, finishing off a counterattack with a one-timer assisted by Jack McGlynn.
The Union advance to the Round of 16, where they will face the winner of FC Cincinnati vs. Santos Laguna. The match itself lacked intensity, reflecting the perceived unimportance of the Leagues Cup competition. Montreal had chances, but Union goalkeeper Andre Blake, returning from injury, made key saves to preserve the clean sheet.
